It’s always a bit scary playing at a new venue, but the band were pleased to take the stage to a good crowd at the Hawkins Theatre in Papakura for our penultimate concert for 2012.
The brief for this event was simple – “the full spectrum of music for brass ensemble”.
As well as original brass music Dalewool performed some classical overtures, Lloyd-Webber, Gershwin, two great marches and lots more.
Andy Appleton (Smurf) earned his keep nailing tricky solos all afternoon (“I spent more time stood up then sat down”). Stalwarts Kay Mackenzie and Ken Cant also played solos to great applause and Dalewool were pleased to introduce Ben Zilber on the trombone; a stunningly talented musician who plays for the APO and NZSO in his spare time.
The management of the band are putting the polish on the events calendar for 2013, we all hope to be back in Papakura.
Thanks go to our friends from North Shore Brass (Andrew Large, Greg Moverley and Billy Middleton) for joining in to cover for a few of our own called away for work and illness. Cheers guys!
Only one more stop for 2012 – Christmas Magic. See you there!
