Dalewool Auckland Brass – under the baton of Adrian Raven – travels north once more to delight its Orewa faithful with the 2017 edition of the Peter McDermott Memorial Concert.
The concert – now a regular in the band’s calendar – will showcase a wide variety of music from original work for brass bands, arrangements of jazz standards, much-loved classical works and solo items from some of their top class players.
Outside of its base in Onehunga, the band has enjoyed significant representation in the National Band of New Zealand which traveled to Kerkrade, Netherlands and placed 2nd in the World Brass Band Championships. Ross Gerritsen (baritone), Rhys McDonnell (cornet), Kay MacKenzie (Soprano Cornet), John Lewis (Cornet) and Rachel Thomas (Percussion) wore the Silver Fern with pride earlier this month championing the Dalewool name on the world stage. The band is immensely proud of their achievements and looks forward to further national representation in the future.
More specifically, Rachel Thomas’ involvement in the National Band come amid an exceptional 12 months for her. Despite a busy schedule studying medicine at the University of Auckland, her musical involvement has not waned and her competition success has been staggering. After winning the 2016 National Percussion title in 2016 and going on to become the first percussionist to win the Champion of Champions title, Rachel achieved the same double in 2017 taking out both titles. Dalewool Brass is privileged to work with Rachel on an ongoing basis and we know that our audiences will be suitably impressed by her exceptional musicianship.
Dalewool Brass looks forward to welcoming you to the Centrestage Theatre, 2:00pm, Sunday 6th August. Tickets available though www.nzbrass.com or the theatre on 09 426 7282
